Important Facts About Children And Gum Disease

Posted on 7/18/2022 by Fariba Mutschler
Important Facts About Children And Gum DiseaseGum disease is one of the common oral diseases children face. The main cause of the disease is poor oral hygiene. When you allow your child to enjoy improper oral hygiene like not brushing their teeth or flossing regularly. Your child is likely to develop gum disease. Your child should brush their teeth carefully so as to prevent any damage to their gum.

When it is not properly done, however, the first step of gum disease starts. Your kid develops plaque on his or her teeth and gums. The plaque if not treated hardens and forms tartar. Tartar allows bacteria to feed on your tooth enamel leading to further damage of the gums and teeth.

Symptoms Of Gum Disease

There are early symptoms that your child is suffering from gum disease. First, your child's gums may appear red and swollen. The other symptom of gum disease is your kid's gum bleed after or during brushing their teeth. This is a clear indication that your child is most likely infected with gum disease. With an early diagnosis gum disease is curable and preventable.

Preventing Gum Disease

A key fact is gum disease is easily preventable when you teach your children how to practice proper oral hygiene. It is essential to ensure that your child brushes their teeth after each and every meal. This will prevent the disease-causing germs found in their mouth from forming plaque in their teeth. This will also improve the general oral health of your child. Ensure that your child is using toothpaste that has the proper amount of fluoride. This will ensure that the tooth of your child is strong and will also play a role in preventing tooth decay.
