If you have children, then you know how quickly their attention can go from one focus to another. It can be challenging doing routine things like getting dressed in the morning, putting on shoes and even brushing their teeth. Their attention is always divided. So how long do they need to brush? And how can you encourage them to brush for the whole time? Let's explore that today. When Two Minutes Lasts For a Lifetime The recommended length of brushing a child's teeth is two minutes. Which to a child, can probably feel like an eternity. There is so much to do!! Who wants to take a whole two minutes out of their day, twice, to brush? We get it. But we're here to encourage you to do just that because those two minutes can last a lifetime when it comes to good oral health. There are many little 'tricks' that you as a parent can do to encourage your child to brush for the entire two minutes. Try brushing your teeth with your child. They learn by example, and having company in the bathroom can encourage them to stay focused for the entire two minutes. There are also many timer devices available on the market. Everything from timers that sing your child's favorite song to toothbrushes that light up and sing for two minutes can encourage them to focus and brush for two the entire length of time. Find a favorite song that lasts two minutes and play it only at toothbrush time, or make up your own little song to sing to your child as they brush. Get creative and be fun, the more fun your child is having, the more likely they are to look forward to brushing their teeth. Give our office a call and schedule your child's next checkup and share with us your tricks for making that two minutes fly by! |
